Low-cost lodging
There are very few "Bed and breakfasts" to be found in
the Netherlands, and less in Amsterdam, but there are many budget
hotels in Amsterdam for low-cost lodging.
Restaurants
Most Amsterdam restaurants are in the city centre, if you are walking
to the city centre you will pass many fine establishments. There
are in excess of a thousand restaurants to choose from in Amsterdam
so we can't possibly list them all here. There is also a high concentration
of restaurants around the Leidseplein. Here is a link for Restaurants
in Amsterdam.

Transport
The public transport facilities in Amsterdam are excellent. The
city is compact so journey time should not be too long. A popular
way to get around in Amsterdam is by tram (and bicycle of course).
We don't recommend driving in Amsterdam if you can avoid it, the
cost for parking can be high. Click here for more information on
Transport
in Amsterdam.
Language
Fortunately (for English speakers) most people in Amsterdam speak
English. German and French are fairly popular too.
Should you tip?
In the Netherlands prices include tax and tips. If you would like
to roundup the bill, they will be pleased. Don't feel obliged to
leave a tip: it is not expected. The same goes for taxis.
